A wave of mourning has swept through Ogudu in Lagos State following the death of Oba Nojeemdeen Fashola, the Ologudu of Ogudu land.

The first-class traditional ruler reportedly died peacefully in the early hours of Thursday at his residence in Ogudu, according to palace sources.

Palace officials confirmed the monarch’s passing but did not disclose the cause of death, stating only that the king “departed this world in peace.”

His death has drawn tributes from residents, community leaders and well-wishers across Kosofe Local Government Area, where he was widely regarded as a symbol of unity, peace and cultural preservation.

In line with Yoruba traditional rites, some community gatherings and market activities in Ogudu were temporarily scaled down as residents observed mourning customs in honor of the late monarch.

Oba Fashola ascended the throne four years ago and was known for his calm leadership style, accessibility and commitment to community development. Supporters described him as a respected father figure who worked to promote harmony and progress in Ogudu land.

Funeral arrangements and official burial rites are expected to be announced by the palace and the Lagos State traditional council in the coming days.
