Karolina Pliskova re-hires coach she fired after Wimbledon

Former world No 1 Karolina Pliskova has announced that she is re-hiring coach Sascha Bajin.

After Wimbledon, Pliskova announced her decision to split with Bajin.

Five months later, Pliskova is back to working with Bajin. Pliskova hired Bajin for the first time ahead of the 2021 season and their first stint lasted a year and a half. “I’m mainly coming back because I still believe that I can help Karolína with my observations.

Her game has gradually improved since her hand injury and in my eyes she has proven that she can still compete with the best in the world. We will want to follow up on these performances, which is why we have decided to renew our connection.

I can’t wait to sit in her cmade two notable results after splitting with Bajinorner again,” Bajin said, per Pliskova’s official website.

Pliskova had a rough 2022 season

Last December, Pliskova sustained a bizarre injury during a gym workout.

When Pliskova kicked off her 2022 season in March, she was evidently far from her best game and she didn’t do much during the Sunshine Double and the clay swing. Pliskova made the Berlin quarterfinal in her grass season opener, but then picked up back-to-back surprise defeats to Katie Boulter in Eastbourne and Wimbledon.

After losing to Boulter at Wimbledon, Plsikova announced her decision to split with Bajin. “Even good things sometimes comes to an end. I would like to thank @BigSascha for everything he did for me and my team. It was an incredible time and i learned a lot!

Mainly how to be more positive and believe in myself. One of the best coaches out there, good luck my friend,” Pliskova wrote on Instagram after Wimbledon. After splitting with Bajin, Pliskova made the semifinal at the WTA 1000 event in Toronto.

Pliskova also enjoyed a good US Open run as she made the quarterfinal before losing to Aryna Sabalenka. It remains to be seen if hiring Bajin again can help Pliskova in her bid to win her first Grand Slam in 2023.
