JUST IN: Isaac Jemide, long serving Warri chief is dead
Chief Isaac Jemide, a lawyer and one of the long-serving Itsekiri chiefs is dead. He was 88 on 19 October.
He reportedly died around 10 am on, Sunday.
His passage was announced by the secretary of the Warri Council of Chiefs, Chief Eugene Ikomi, who condoled the family.
“It’s another sad day for the Council. We received with deep shock the sudden passing of our amiable Chief Isaac Jemide (Ikeri),” Ikomi said.
Jemide was the second prominent chief to pass on this year.
In September, another chief, Dr. Charles Ikomi, the Ero of Warri kingdom, also died.
Jemide was born in the ancient town of Koko, now headquarters of Warri North Local Government Area.
He attended Hussey College College Warri.
He was a devout Catholic and was renowned for his undying love for the Rosary Club ‘Four Pillars’ of Truth.
He was member of the House of Assembly, representing Warri in the old Bendel State between 1979-1983. He was then a member of Awolowo’s Unity Party of Nigeria.
He also served as External Solicitor to Shell Petroleum Development Company (West).
He became a Warri chief in 1985, was one of the Itsekiri Leaders of Thought (ILOT).
He was a former commissioner representing Delta State on the board of the now-defunct Oil Mineral Producing Areas Development Commission (OMPADEC).
