Jurgen Klopp details text he sent Liverpool owners after apology for state of team
Jurgen Klopp took the reins at Liverpool back in 2015, and revealed he received a message from the club’s owners apologising for the size of the job he had just inherited
Jurgen Klopp has revealed he received a text message from the Liverpool owners apologising for the state of the team when he took the reins.
Klopp was named Liverpool boss in 2015, and replaced Brendan Rodgers at the helm.
Liverpool were in tenth place at the time, and Klopp has had to work hard with the group – and make some choice signings – to turn them into English and European Champions.
Speaking ahead of Liverpool’s 2-0 win over RB Leipzig, Klopp revealed he received a text from the Fenway Sports Group apologising for the tough job he had just inherited.
“At the beginning I received a message from the US saying, ‘Sorry for the squad we’ve given you’,” said Klopp. “But all was good I replied, it just needs time.
“There is a very strong tie to the owners, they support a lot. I just want to win football matches, to be honest.”
Klopp has gone from strength to strength at Liverpool, but the Reds are struggling for form currently, and have fallen to sixth in the Premier League table.
Liverpool beat RB Leipzig in a break from the Premier League on Tuesday night, and Klopp was delighted with his side’s performance.
“We defended really well – the first goal we pressed really well – over the whole 95 minutes we defended really well and had really good ball recoveries,” said Klopp.
“It was a really good game against a good side.”
