Jonathan’s visit to Ganduje: Disgusting – Apc Group in Bayelsa Kicks.
Bayelsa APC Progressive Movement For Good Leadership and Governance has reacted to the news of former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan’s recent visit to APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu Ganduje at his Abuja residence.
At a press briefing held in their head office, in Yenagoa, the group stated that Jonathan’s interference in Bayelsa State political gimmicks was becoming offensive, unbecoming of a statesman and portends grave danger if it continues.
Recall that the former president who visited governor Douye Diri last week made derogatory comments about the All Progressive Congress (APC) Candidate in the just concluded Bayelsa State off-circle gubernatorial election.
Goodluck’s offensive comments attracted serious reactions and sentiments amongst a heterogeneous people, struggling to live in unity, peace and harmony; which ought to be the priority of former President Goodluck, who should be a father figure of the state.
His frequent visits to the APC leadership is not unconnected with his penchant for Douye Diri to be allowed for a second term in office, against the will of the people of Bayelsa State.
This is disgusting from a father who enjoys access and respect from both party leaders, hence a neutral role would have been expected of him.
“Chief Timipre Sylva has no personal problem with former President Goodluck Jonathan, to the extent that he should reduce himself to be a messenger of the Douye Diri led administration, by visiting APC leaders every now and then, to talk them out of support for their party in Bayelsa State”, the group noted.
In Nigeria there are former presidents who do not reduce themselves to be messengers of their state governors. We have former presidents Abdulsalam Abubakar, Ibrahim Babangida and Olusegun Obasanjo, etc.
Do they interfer in their states politics, moving up and about like Jonathan does? They maintain dignity, neutrality and decorum as much as possible and that should be emulated by Goodluck Jonathan, moving forward, not to reduce the office of ‘former president’ to the mud.
The progressive group maintained that the former president should respect political party rights and boundaries; if he is still interested in Party politics, APC will be glad to receive him, but if not, he should stay away from interfering in APC politics.
But in any case, there is an end to every thing under the sun. God is not unjust and will grant Chief Timipre Sylva victory in the end.
Amen.
