IYC wants Jonathan’s convoy crash probed, Wike, UNIPORT mourn
The Ijaw Youths Council Worldwide on Thursday called on security agencies to thoroughly investigate the auto crash in the convoy of former President Goodluck Jonathan which left two policemen dead and two others injured in Abuja on Wednesday.
The IYC’s National President, Peter Igbifa, in a statement in Port Harcourt said the probe was necessary because of the council’s suspicion that the crash was a premeditated attempt on Jonathan’s life by some “conspirators.”
Igbifa claimed that the orderlies used themselves as human shields for Jonathan and, in the process, paid the ultimate price, describing their action as the highest level of sacrifice.
He said, “It is obvious that some people are after the former President. They want him dead and we believe it is not unconnected with the constant appearance of his name in the forthcoming 2023 election.
“To such satanic agents, the only way to stop the rumoured plot to return Jonathan to Aso Rock in 2023 is to eliminate him.
“We know in Nigeria, there is nothing desperate politicians, who see others as a threat to their ambitions, cannot do.”
Igbifa called on security agencies to beef up security around the former President.
“We are calling on security agencies to rise up to their responsibilities and beef up security around the former President.
“They should probe this accident and make public the circumstances that led to it. The blood of our hero cannot be used to settle political scores,” he added.
Meanwhile, Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has expressed gratitude to God for making the former President Jonathan escape unhurt in the crash.
Wike, in a statement by his media aide, Kelvin Ebiris, said it was a thing of joy that Jonathan came out unscathed.
“I was so elated to hear that President Goodluck Jonathan escaped unhurt. I thank God Almighty for sparing his life and that of others in the convoy,” he said.
He, however, said he was devastated to hear that two police aides of the former President lost their lives, while others sustained injuries in the accident.
Wike added, “It is very heartbreaking to hear that the accident claimed the lives of two police personnel. May God grant their families the fortitude to bear the loss.
“I pray to God to give President Jonathan all the strength to overcome the scars of this painful accident.”
Also, the University of Port Harcourt Alumni Association has commiserated with Jonathan over the death of the two policemen.
The association’s National President, Ule Williams, in a condolence message on Thursday, thanked God for saving the life of Jonathan.
Williams stated, “We give thanks to the Almighty God for saving the life of the former President, Dr Goodluck Jonathan.
“While giving God praise for saving the life of our beloved grand patron, loving father and leader par excellence, we call on road users to apply caution while using the roads to forestall avoidable accidents.
“May the good Lord continue to protect the life of our grand patron.”
