Israeli delegation arrived on Wednesday in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, Israeli media revealed, without giving more details about it.

According to Israeli public broadcaster, Kan, the delegation travelled on board a plane that took off from Israel on Wednesday morning and made a brief stop in Sharm el-Sheikh in Egypt, before resuming its way to Sudan.

The Saudi Al Arabiya news channel said that the “Israeli military delegation” was slated to meet with Sudan’s top general, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan.

Sudanese authorities have not yet commented on the report. Al-Jazeera attempted to get comments from the Sudanese Foreign Ministry, but it refused to give any word.

However, a Sudanese military source told Al-Jazeera that the Israeli delegation was greeted by the second-in-command of the Rapid Support Forces, a Sudanese paramilitary force that took part in the coup against ousted President Omar Al-Bashir.

While there are massive demonstrations across the African country in protest against the military coup carried out last October by Al-Burhan, two senior US diplomats were in the country on Wednesday to try and help find a way out of the ongoing crisis.

In November, the resigned Sudanese Foreign Minister, Mariam Al-Sadeq Al-Mehdi said that Israel and Egypt backed October’s coup, which was condemned by the whole world except by Israel.

She accused Al-Burhan of justifying his coup by flattering Israel as he described the ministers he ousted as opponents to Israel.
