INEC forecloses parties’ access to its data base
To political party will be given access the data base of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the agency’s National Commissioner, Information and Voter Education, Festus Okoye, said yesterday.
The data base, according to Okoye, who spoke Politics Today, a Channels Television programme, contains biometric information of all registered voters.
He said all the parties have already been given copies of register of voters as well as their polling units in accordance with the provisions of the law.
Okoye also said that the Commission hopes to conclude the reconfiguration of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) by tomorrow for deployment to the polling units ahead of Saturday’s governorship and House of Assembly elections.
He, however, said that any BVAS that failed to provide a backup system for the results of the presidential and National Assembly election will not be reconfigured for the March 18 polls.
