Kabaddi: India vs Thailand on cards in women’s Group A

The Indian women’s kabaddi team will take on Thailand in their final Group A match, with a semi-final spot at stake in the Asian Games 2023. India are currently atop the standings after the 56-23 win against the Republic of Korea, following the tie against Chinese Taipei.

Diving: Siddharth Pardeshi through to men’s 10m platform final

Indian diver Siddharth Pardeshi scored 234.55 points, finishing 11th, in the men’s 10m platform preliminary round, ensuring his place in the final. He scored 57.75 points in back 3 1/2 somersaults, his most in the six dives.

The 26-year-old Siddharth, featuring in his second Asian Games, will dive in the men’s 10m platform final today at 5:00 PM IST.

Boxing: Lovlina Borgohain eyes gold on debut, Parveen Hooda bags bronze

The reigning world champion Lovlina Borgohain will fight in the women’s 75kg final against Tokyo 2020 silver medallist Li Qian. The Tokyo 2020 69kg bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain will eye an Asian Games gold on debut. The final begins today at 1:15 PM IST.

The 2022 63kg Asian Champion Parveen Hooda, meanwhile, suffered a 5:0 defeat on points against Lin Yu Ting, the 2018 Asian Games 51kg bronze medallist, in the women’s 57kg semi-final.

On her Asian Games debut, Parveen added a fourth boxing bronze to India’s medal tally at Hangzhou. The 23-year-old Indian pugilist had beaten China’s Xu Zichun and Uzbekistan’s Sitora Turdibekova in the round of 16 and quarter-finals, respectively.

Both Lovlina and Parveen had already secured a Paris 2024 Olympic quota for India.

Squash: Dipika-Harinder make gold medal match, Anahat-Abhay win bronze

Indian mixed doubles squash pair Dipika Pallikal and Harinder Pal Singh beat Hong Kong China’s Lee Ya Ki and Wong Chi Him 7-11, 11-7, 11-9 in the semi-final, advancing to the gold medal match. Mixed doubles squash had made its debut at the Asian Games 2023.

Anahat Singh and Abhay Singh, however, failed to make it an all-Indian final, losing 8-11, 11-2, 11-9 against Aifa Binti Azman and Mohammad Syafiq of Malaysia in the second semi-final. The Indian duo settled for the mixed doubles bronze medal at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou.

The India vs Malaysia mixed doubles squash gold medal match will be played tomorrow at 11:30 AM IST.

Volleyball: India beat Nepal in women’s classification match

The Indian women’s volleyball team beat Nepal 3-1, a total scoreline of 101-91, in the women’s classification Pool G match at the Asian Games 2023. India had lost their two preliminary matches against the Democratic Republic of Korea and China, respectively.

Depending on the results of other matches, India will feature in the women’s volleyball rank classification match at Hangzhou.

Badminton: Mixed and women’s doubles pairs lose round of 16 match

India’s Sai Pratheek and Tanisha Crasto lost 21-18, 21-8 to world No. 9 Malaysian pair Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei in the mixed doubles round of 16 at the Asian Games 2023. While it ended Sai Pratheek’s Hangzhou campaign, Tanisha Crasto will take the court in the women’s doubles pre-quarterfinals, alongside Ashwini Ponnappa, at 10:30 AM IST today.

Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand, too, went down 21-15, 18-21, 21-13 in the women’s doubles round of 16 against Korean pair Kim Soyeong and Kong Heeyong, marking the end of their campaign at the 19th Asian Games.

Wrestling: Sunil Kumar to wrestle in bronze medal bout

Indian grappler Sunil Kumar will take the mat in the Greco-Roman 87kg bronze medal match, following the 5-1 defeat against IR Iran’s Naser Alizadeh in the semi-final.

Sunil Kumar had beaten China’s Peng Fei and Sukhrob Abdulkhaev of Tajikistan in the 1/8 final and the 1/4 final, respectively, at Hangzhou. Neeraj, Gyanender and Vikas did not make the repechages either, ending their Hangzhou campaign.

Sport climbing: Indian climbers knocked out in speed relay qualification

The Indian women’s speed relay team finished sixth with a time of 39.598 seconds in the qualification round and failed to make the heats. Only the top four teams made the cut for the heats, where the winners will advance to the gold medal race and the two losing teams will contest the bronze medal race.

Anisha Verma and Shivpreet Pannu, who featured today, were defeated in the individual round of 16 heats on Tuesday.

India win medal No. 71 at Asian Games 2023, record for a single edition

The Indian mixed compound archery team, featuring Ojas Deotale and Jyothi Surekha Vennam, won gold, India’s 71st medal, at the Asian Games 2023, courtesy of which India surpassed their best Asian Games medal count record in a single edition. The previous best medal tally of 70 was achieved at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta.

In Hangzhou, India have eclipsed their athletics and shooting records from 2018. Shooters clinched an all-time Indian record of 22 medals at the continental meet. Athletics, too, has delivered 23 medals, so far, with a few medal events still to be played.

Three boxing bronze have been won with two more assured. Three squash medals are assured too.

The Indian contingent crossed the 50-medal mark in each of the previous four editions.

Archery: Mixed compound team win gold medal

Indian archers Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Ojas Deotale won 159-158 against the Republic of Korea’s So Chaewon and Joo Jaehoon in the mixed team compound archery gold medal match at the Asian Games 2023. It is India’s second archery gold medal in Asian Games history while the nation also secured its best-ever medal tally at the continental meet.

The Indian archers scored a perfect 40 in all but the third end. The Koreans, however, faltered at ends 1 and 4 and claimed the silver medal.

Jyothi and Ojas, meanwhile, will also feature in their individual gold medal matches on Saturday, October 7 from 6:30 AM IST.

Wrestling: Sunil Kumar makes Greco-Roman semis

Indian grappler Sunil Kumar beat Sukhrob Abdulkhaev of Tajikistan 9-1 in the Greco-Roman 87kg quarter-final bout at the Asian Games 2023. The 24-year-old Indian wrestler, earlier, secured a 4-3 victory on points against China’s Peng Fei in the pre-quarterfinal.

China’s Liu Tui beat Vikas of India by technical superiority in the Greco-Roman 77kg quarter-final.

Meanwhile, Neeraj lost 5-3 versus Uzbekistan’s Makhmud Bakhshilloev in the Greco-Roman 67kg 1/8 final. Gyanender, too, was defeated 7-1 by the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Meysam Dalkhani in the Greco-Roman 60kg 1/8 final.

Badminton: PV Sindhu, HS Prannoy make singles quarters

Indian badminton ace PV Sindhu won 21-16, 21-16 after 55 minutes against Indonesian shuttler Putri Kusuma Wardani in the women’s singles round of 16 at the Asian Games 2023. A silver medallist at the 2018 Asian Games, PV Sindhu will continue her gold surge tomorrow in the quarter-final.

HS Prannoy, too, won his men’s singles round of 16 match, beating Kazakhstan’s Dmitriy Panarin 21-12, 21-13. The 31-year-old Indian shuttler’s best finish at the continental meet, so far, was the quarter-finals in 2018. World No. 7 HS Prannoy will feature in the quarter-final tomorrow, aiming to finish better at Hangzhou 2023.

Athletics: India win 35km race walk mixed team bronze

Indian athletes Manju Rani and Ram Baboo clocked a combined time of 5:51:14, winning the 35km race walk mixed team bronze medal at the Asian Games 2023. It is India’s 70th medal at Hangzhou, equalling their best-ever medal tally from the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta. India’s athletics medal tally now stands at 23 – four gold, 10 silver and nine bronze.

China won the gold medal with a time of 5:16:41 while Japan clocked 5:22:11 to secure the silver medal in the 35km race walk mixed team final.

Archery: India beat Kazakhstan in mixed team compound semis, assured medal

Indian archers Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Ojas Deotale beat Kazakhstan’s Adel Zhexenbinova and Andrey Tyutyun 159-154 in the mixed compound archery semi-final, advancing to the gold medal match. They are assured at least a silver medal at Hangzhou. The Indian duo had scored perfectly, 40 points, at the second, third and fourth ends.

Earlier, Ojas and Jyothi won 158-155 against Malaysia’s Fatin Nurfatehah Mat Salleh and Mohd Juwaidi Mazuki in the quarter-final. The Indian pair had also scored 40 points in three sets in this match.

Ojas and Jyothi, meanwhile, had also made the individual gold medal match on Tuesday. They will be back in action for the mixed team compound gold medal match, starting at 8:30 AM IST.

Kabaddi: Indian men’s team seal 37-point win vs Thailand

The Indian men’s kabaddi team beat Thailand 63-26 in their second Group A match at the Asian Games 2023, taking the top spot in the standings.

The seven-time champions India continued its attacking form from their win against Bangladesh in their campaign opener on Tuesday. The Indian raiders scored nine bonus points today, while the defenders also inflicted four all-outs and made a super tackle on the Thai raiders.

In a double header tomorrow, India will take on Chinese Taipei at 8:00 AM IST and Japan at 1:30 PM IST, aiming to finish atop the Group A standings. The men’s kabaddi semi-finals are scheduled for Friday, October 6 and the gold medal match on Saturday, October 7.

Neeraj Chopra will take the field today and throw the javelin to defend his title. With Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem missing out, the reigning Olympic and world champion will be the top contender to strike gold in Hangzhou.

Boxer Lovlina Borgohain will fight in the women’s 75kg final against Tokyo 2020 silver medallist Li Qian from China. The Indian boxer, who already secured a Paris 2024 quota, could sign off with a gold medal on her Asian Games debut.

The Indian men’s hockey team will have the final and an Olympic quota in their sights as they take on the four-time champions Republic of Korea in the semi-finals.

Avinash Sable, the men’s 3000m steeplechase gold medallist in Hangzhou, will run in the 5000m race to emulate compatriot Parul Chaudhary with a double-medal finish at the Asian Games 2023.

Men’s high jump, women’s triple jump, women’s 800m and 4x400m relays, all medal events, can also boost India’s athletics tally at Hangzhou.

Saurav Ghosal will take the court in the squash singles semi-finals in his bid to better his 2014 Asian Games silver finish. Dipika Pallikal-Harinder Pal Singh Sandhu and Anahat Singh-Abhay Singh, meanwhile, can secure mixed doubles gold and silver for India with semi-final victories.

Badminton at the Asian Games 2023 continues as PV Sindhu, HS Prannoy, Kidambi Srikanth and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty will play in the round of 16.

The Indian men’s and women’s kabaddi teams will also take the mat in their group matches.

Two medals are on offer in archery – the compound mixed team and the recurve mixed team. Greco-Roman grapplers are set to kick off wrestling at Hangzhou 2023.

The Indian men’s team will play their final three rounds of the bridge semi-finals against China today. The equestrian jumping team medal event and individual qualifying will also see Indian riders in action today.
