In the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, at least 13 people have died after falling into a well during a wedding ceremony.
The victims, all women and children, were sitting on a metal slab that covered the well when it fell beneath their weight, according to police.
The tragedy, which occurred in Nebua Naurangia village in Kushinagar district, resulted in the injuries of ten more people.
The fatalities were described by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi as “heart wrenching.” Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed sorrow over the incident.
