‘I’ll Be a Voice for the FCT Voiceless’ — YPP Senatorial Candidate

By Prosper Okoye

The Young Progressive Party (YPP) candidate for the 2027 Federal Capital Territory (FCT) senatorial election, Blessing Ufedojo Benyeogor, has pledged to champion the interests of marginalised residents if elected into the Senate.

“I will be a voice for the voiceless in the FCT,” Benyeogor said after emerging as the party’s candidate, promising to focus on education, healthcare and infrastructure.

She said her decision to contest was driven by what she described as governance gaps affecting many residents of the nation’s capital.

According to her, previous occupants of the senatorial seat had not fully represented the concerns of ordinary residents, stressing that lawmakers should prioritise the welfare of constituents and hold the executive accountable on issues affecting daily life.

Benyeogor said improving access to quality education and affordable healthcare would form a key part of her legislative agenda.

She said many residents struggle to afford treatment even at federal hospitals and pledged to advocate policies aimed at reducing the cost of drugs and expanding healthcare access, particularly for women and vulnerable groups.

The YPP candidate also raised concerns over poor drainage systems and sanitation challenges in parts of the FCT, saying infrastructure development would remain a major focus of her campaign.

Speaking on the prospect of facing another female contender in the race, Benyeogor expressed confidence in her chances, saying her campaign would rely on grassroots mobilisation, particularly among youths and women.

Meanwhile, the FCT Chairman of the YPP, Hon. Abraham Simon Adedotun, said Benyeogor emerged through the party’s consensus process after the completion of its internal nomination exercise.

He said the party could not reopen nominations after the deadline, adding that Benyeogor fulfilled all requirements, including the purchase and submission of nomination forms.

Adedotun described her as a committed party member and former state executive with a clear understanding of the challenges facing residents of the FCT.

He added that her emergence reflects the party’s commitment to youth participation and women’s inclusion in politics.

Also speaking, YPP North Central Women Leader Hauwa Aruwan said women should no longer be underestimated in politics, insisting that leadership requires “ideas and commitment” rather than gender.

She urged women in politics to support one another while challenging long-standing perceptions about female leadership in Nigeria.
