IJAW YOUTH COUNCIL ALLEGES PLOT TO SACK MAJOR GENERAL BARRY NDIOMU, WANTS PRESIDENT TINUBU TO INCREASE FUNDING OF AMNESTY PROGRAMME
The Ijaw Youth Council has alleged plot by politicians to influence President Bola Tinubu to sack the Interim Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Major General Barry Ndiomu and replace him by a retired senior military officer from the urhobo extraction in Delta State.
The Spokesman of the Pan Ijaw Youth Body, Ambassador Binebai Princewill made this allegation at a news conference in Warri where he also appealed to President Bola Tinubu to shun recommendation of other tribes by political allies for the office of the Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme.
Binebai Princewill who is also the Publisher of “Liberator Newspaper” argued that the management of the Presidential Amnesty Programme is solely the rights of the Ijaw people adding that it was Ijaw ethnic group across the Niger Delta that fought for the establishment of the programme that was approved by late President Umaru Musa “Yara’dua in 2009 .
The Image Maker of the Apex Ijaw Youth body added that the plot by some notable politicians within the Presidential Villa to end the Interim Administrator tenure abruptly is a well orchestrated plan to further weaken the political rise of senior citizen from the fourth largest ethnic group in Nigeria.
The IYC Spokesman who observed reservations on the political appointment made since May 29th 2023 faulted President Bola Tinubu decision to sack appointees from Ijaw ethnic group particularly that of former Executive Director, Upstream Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited.
Binebai while attributing the peace and stability of the Niger Delta Region to the ideals and successes recorded by the Amnesty Programme also called on the Nigeria President to increase funding for the programme for improved input in the area of training and rehabilitation of prospective beneficiaries.
