GOV. FUBARA THROUGH THE SIMPLIFIED FAMILY COMMEMORATE WITH THE FAMILY OF LATE MRS. GLORIA ATHANASIUS OF OPOBO/NKORO LGA LAST SATURDAY

Last Saturday, May 3rd, the Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, through the Simplified Movement joined in commemorating the life and legacy of Mrs. Gloria Athanasius a true-born daughter of Nkoro Community.
The occasion, which was the funeral ceremony of the late matriarch, drew significant attendance from top dignitaries and political figures such as the simplified movement family led by Rt. Hon Edison Ehie; COS to R/S Governor, Oko Jumbo; The Speaker of the Rivers state House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Evans Bipi; DG simplified Movement, Hon. Dr. Darlington Orji; Former CTC Ikwere LGA, Hon. Chisom Gbali; Former R/S Comm. For Youth, Hon Dabo Briggs, Hon. Adams & Dr.(Mrs.) Juliet Berewari. Former INEC Commissioner amongst others.
Also in attendance was the leadership of Opobo/Nkoro LGA Led by Hon Daminabo Benneth; Former Commissioner for Commerce & Industry, Rt. Hon Enyiada Cookeygam; Former Chairman of the LGA Council, Hon. Author Jaja; Former Chief of Staff of the Council, Princess May Jaja; The Princess of Opobo Kingdom, Mrs. Furo Ogolo; Former Opobo/Nkoro LGA women Leader, Hon. Eugene Jaja; former Chairman Opobo/Nokoro council.
….other dignitaries are: Hon Emma Okojaja, Hon Cirus Fubara, Hon. Mrs. Julie Ayagogo Toby, Hon. Mrs. Nenem Pepple, Bar. Mrs Onyi lle and others.
The presence of these dignitaries not only underscored the importance of the event but also showed solidarity and respect to Dr. (Mrs.) Athanasius Faithben, former PDP Deputy State Women Leader, as she laid her mother-in-law to rest.
MAJOR TAKE HOME – FROM THE LIFE OF LATE MRS. GLORIA ATHANASIUS
Mrs. Gloria Athanasius, affectionately called “Mma,” was born on November 22, 1945, in Nkoro Town, Opobo/Nkoro LGA, to the family of Late Mr. Lancelot Adams Jumbo and Madam Elfrida D. Jumbo. Known for her resilience and faith, she pursued education in Opobo Town and Amuzari Town, developing strong discipline and determination.
Mma had a distinguished career as a Nursing Assistant with the Rivers State Hospital Management Board, serving at various hospitals, including Braithwaite Memorial Specialist Hospital (now Rivers State University Teaching Hospital). Her compassionate and diligent service left a lasting impact on the healthcare sector until her retirement.
A hardworking and nurturing mother, Mma instilled values of excellence in her six children, twelve grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and two stepchildren. Her home was a haven for family, friends, and strangers, reflecting her boundless kindness. As a devoted Christian and active member of the Catholic Women Organization, her faith guided her life of service and love.
Married to the Late Wariseniowei James Samuel Athanasius, Mma’s legacy of compassion, faith, and generosity continues to inspire. She passed away leaving a profound void, but her cherished memory endures in the lives she touched.
