GBV: Women’s advocacy groups marks International Day of Boy Child, advocate for modern parenting to stem involvement in violence against women

The National leadership of the Association of Women Against Gender-Based Violence (AWAGBV) has celebrated the May 16th annual international day of the boy child, emphasizing the critical role of modern parenting strategies in raising emotionally intelligent, empathetic and resilient boys.
AWAGBV, along with stakeholders and critical partners including the National Association of Seadogs, encouraged parents to foster open communication within their homes, creating an environment where boys feel safe to express their emotions and learn values of self-awareness and compassion.
The National leadership of the Association of Women Against Gender-Based Violence (AWAGBV), in a week long celebration tagged “Edutainment”, recognizes some selected men as role models and patrons and engaged boys in discussions and interactions.
Speaking, the National President of AWAGBV, Dr Dise Ogbise Goddy-Harry, said the celebration of the boy child was done through education and entertainment, laying a foundation for the boys to become men with compassion towards the girl child and women.
She said, ” we wish them to become future leaders that will be exemplary fathers devoid of violence in their home when they grow up to be adults.”
The Capoon of the National Association of Seadogs, Oxbow Marino Deck, Engr. Adogbeji Ebomoji said the partnership with the AWAGBV was to beam more light on the challenges against the boy child.
He pointed out that the celebration has thrown up the fact that the boy child should know that he can become whatever he wants and that they should shun associations including groups that would make their dreams and aspirations difficult to realize,”parents should also understand the emotions and aspirations of the boy child.”
Also speaking, the second National Vice President , Dr. Joan Filatei said the interactions with the boys have shown that they are set and ready to rule their world positively.
Earlier in the day, Engr Dr. Ann Amalate Obuebite PhD. Ist National Vice President led members to the Bishop Dimeari grammar school to speak with the boys on how to keep themselves save from abuse.
