Former Rivers State Governor’s Daughter, Adaeze Oreh, Appointed as Commissioner for Health in Rivers State

In a recent development, Adaeze Oreh, daughter of former Rivers State governor Peter Odili, has been appointed as the Commissioner for Health in Rivers State. Governor Siminalayi Fubara submitted the names of the commissioner-nominees for screening to the Rivers House of Assembly on Friday, and Oreh was among the five nominees

This appointment highlights Oreh’s expertise in the healthcare sector and her commitment to improving public health.

Mrs. Oreh, a family physician, public health specialist, and universal health care advocate, brings a wealth of experience to her new role.

She recently earned a promotion as a senior medical officer at the Department of Hospital Services in the Federal Ministry of Health.

With a bachelor’s degree in medicine and surgery from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and a master’s degree in public health obtained in the UK, Oreh is well-equipped to contribute to the healthcare sector in Rivers State.

Furthermore, Oreh’s dedication to improving global health systems is evident through her work as an alumnus of the International Health Management at the Imperial College Business School of the Imperial College London.

Her areas of focus include healthcare strategy, healthcare financing, and organizational management. Oreh’s expertise and knowledge will be valuable in formulating policies that address maternal and child mortality rates, the transmission of infectious diseases through unsafe blood transfusions, and the equitable distribution of safely-screened blood to remote and conflict-affected communities.

In addition to her role as Commissioner for Health, Oreh also serves on the governing council of Pamo University of Medical Sciences, further demonstrating her commitment to the advancement of healthcare in Nigeria…
