A legendary Kaizer Chiefs striker appears to have retired from professional football following his appointment at PSL clubs.

Collins Mbesuma is now Pretoria Callies‘ striker’s coach, and his role is to help sharpen their attackers for the remainder of the season.

This is a similar role held by former Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates striker Benni McCarthy at Premier League giants Manchester United.

According to ThisIsFootballAfrica, Callies saw the need to rope Mbesuma in after struggling to move from the bottom of the Motsepe Foundation Championship (MFC) log in the first 12 matches.

Mbesuma, a former Callies striker himself, has a very good goalscoring track record in South Africa, but his best contribution was at Chiefs.

The former Chipolopolo marksman spent two seasons at Chiefs, scoring a whopping 35 goals across all competitions in his final campaign with Amakhosi before jetting off to Europe.

Mbesuma returned from abroad to play for Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates, and Golden Arrows among many PSL teams.

“The former Orlando Pirates striker is tasked to help the strikers in the team to start scoring. Callies sit at the bottom of the MFC table with only two wins, two draws and eight losses,” reads the report.
