Ex-Iwuanyanwu Nat’l Sec sch tourney: Fourteen schools set for Quarter final battle

Fourteen Secondary schools that has made it to the quarterfinals will be slugging it out at the various zone centers in Imo state on Wednesday 19th June to produce four semi finalist at the ongoing Ex-Iwuanyanwu inter Secondary school competition in partnership with the Imo state Ministry of Youths and Sports and also Imo state Ministry of Education, The Statesman Newspaper Sports Desk can exclusively report.

 

In her vision to catch them young, give back to the society what they benefited from the society and also reduce crime and juvenile delinquency in the society, The association of Ex-Iwuanyanwu Nationale world wide kicked off the Inter secondary school football competition on May 29th at the Dan Anyiam Stadium Owerri.

 

This tournament cut across all communities, local government and zones in Imo state. The champions of the zones will now slug it out at the semi finals in Owerri while the final show down will be held on July 2nd.

 

In an exclusive interview with the Statesman Newspaper Sports correspondent, the president of Ex-Iwuanyanwu National world wide, Mr Isaac Ugochukwu Mbika said;

 

“This project has not been easy but we will surely get to the finish line in grand style because we want to give this kids a sense of belonging.

 

Ex-Iwuanyanwu National is giving back to the society what the society gave to them by taking them off the street and channeling this talents for the greater good of the society.

 

Many of the stars you see today and some success stories were made through this grassroot venture and that is why we took it upon ourselves to inject it back to the society.

 

We are at the Quarter final stages and from here the intensity increases. The final showdown, God wiling will be going down on July 2nd at the Dan Anyiam stadium Owerri.

 

The challenge we are having is the funding, initially we budgeted about two million Naira to run this competition but now expenses is chasing around 10 million Naira because we have to cover every local government in Imo state.

 

But we are happy that at the end of the day we are able to fish out up to 20 good players for grooming into the next stage.

So this discoveries is part of the reason for this ventures and that has been our consolation, the efforts was worthwhile.” Mbika concluded.

 

Meanwhile all Quarter final matches kicks off on Wednesday at various zones and the comprehensive fixtures are as follows;

 

OKIGWE ZONE

ORLU ZONE

Three sec schools will produce one winner

 

Eziachi Sec sch

Venue: Eziachi playing ground

 

Orlu zone 2

Winner of orlu zone 1 will face winner of Orlu zone 2 to produce one champion from Orlu zone

 

Mgbidi boys sec sch

Trinity high school,

Venue:Awonmama sec sch.

 

OWERRI ZONE

 

Owerri zone will produce two champions to balance the semi finals fixture.

Obizi high sch

Ahiazu Lude

and the winner to play

Ngor okpala high.

Note the two winners from zone 1 will slug it out for the final slot.
