Evwreni Crisis: Govt White Paper Disbands Vigilance Group, Urges Mop Up Of Arms

The Delta State Government has endorsed a White paper on the report of the Judicial panel of inquiry it earlier set to look at the immediate and remote causes of the crisis in Evwreni Community, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.

The White paper on the report of the Judicial panel of inquiry directed that the Vigilance Group of the community be disbanded and a fresh one set up while the relevant security agencies are to immediately commence the process of mopping up arms in circulation in the community.

The report of the Judicial Panel inquiry headed by Hon. Justice Michael Nduka Obi was considered during the State Executive Council meeting on Tuesday with Hon. Samuel Mariere, Commissioner for Water Resources Development and an interested party in the matter, excused from the meeting during the consideration of the report so as not to influence or compromise the debate on the report.

The draft white paper from the State Exco meeting indicates that while most of the recommendations of the panel were adopted, the Exco voted for the retention of the Traditional Ruler of Evwreni Kingdom, HRM Oghenekevwe Owin Kumane Eruvwedede 111, on the throne as the paramount ruler of the Evwreni people.
