Elena Rybakina hopes to stay healthy and keep winning during the clay season. Rybakina, 23, did extremely well in the first three months of the season as she made the Australian Open final and also made back-to-back finals at the WTA 1000 events in Indian Wells and Miami.

“I think that every match I play, it’s an experience, and one year, it’s a lot. Now the goal is still to be healthy, because when even you play that good these two weeks, you never know how you’re gonna come out on clay, and you need to do good preparation also there.

That’s the most important. After so many matches, I feel confidence is just [from], as I said, to try to do good preparation. I won’t say that there is again a lot of time, but that’s a good problem to have. Just keep on fighting, keep on working on the technique, physique, and a lot of aspects of my game,” Rybakina said, per the WTA website.

Rybakina fell just short of completing the Sunshine Double

After losing to Aryna Sabalenka in the Australian Open final, Rybakina got her revenge by beating the Belarusian in the Indian Wells final. After Indian Wells, Rybakina came to Miami confident and hoping to join the rare club of players who have managed to complete the Sunshine Double in the same year.

In Miami, Rybakina was playing well and she won her first five matches to reach the final. Rybakina was the favorite to win the Miami final but Petra Kvitova pulled off a 7-6 (14) 6-2 win. Even though Rybakina didn’t win Miami, it was still a very positive Sunshine Double for the Kazakh.

Now, Rybakina will try to continue her fine on the clay and clinch more notable results. In 2019, Rybakina clinched her maiden WTA title on the clay courts of Bucharest. It remains to be seen how well can Rybakina do on the clay this year.
