EFL: Victor Moses makes winning debut for Luton Town; Red-hot Maja topping the scoring charts
Former Chelsea wing-back Victor Moses made his first appearance for Luton Town as the Hatters recovered from being a goal down to beat Sheffield Wednesday 2-1 at Kenilworth Road on matchday six of the EFL Championship on Saturday.
The 2013 Africa Cup of Nations winner returned to English football in September, three years after ending his association with Chelsea.
After he was a non-playing substitute in a 1-0 win at Millwall exactly a week ago, manager Rob Edwards handed him his debut off the bench in today’s clash against the Owls, bringing him on as a replacement for Joe Taylor with seven minutes remaining.
Luton Town had to come from behind to secure their first three points at home in the new season, as a brace from Carlton Morris was enough to see off the visitors who took the lead through Barry Bannan at minute 52.
Moses appeared in 58 games in the Championship and directly participated in seventeen goals during his time with Crystal Palace.
Elsewhere in the Championship, Super Eagles forward Josh Maja continued his rich vein of form as West Brom secured a 1-0 win against Plymouth Argyle at the Hawthorns to make it four consecutive wins in the division.
After a goalless first half, Maja scored the game-winning goal at minute 62 when he tapped home at the back post following a cross from Uroš Račić.
The former Sunderland youth teamer thought he had opened the scoring in the closing minutes of the first half but the goal was rightly disallowed as the striker was offside before finding the net.
Including his hat-trick against Queens Park Rangers on matchday one, Maja has now tallied six goals in the Championship, more than any other player in the second tier of English football.
2023 Africa Cup of Nations star Semi Ajayi featured in the heart of defence, and was impressive again, helping the Baggies post a clean sheet for the third game in a row.
