Ebonyi indigenes condemn killing of Nwode, fiancée over refusal to join APC
Nwode, who was a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was shot dead by unknown gunmen at the thanksgiving service of government appointees at Oriuzor, Ezza North Council Area on Monday.
President of AESID, Paschal Oluchukwu, who enjoined the Ebonyi people to keep the peace even in the face of provocation, urged the Federal Government to intervene and avert a political crisis in Ebonyi State.
AESID said the Federal Government should caution Governor Dave Umahi against making further unverified, unauthenticated and false allegations that could cause unrest in the state.
It urged the Presidency, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Department of State Security (DSS), National Security Adviser (NSA), Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and other stakeholders to ensure that nothing happened to opposition members and their supporters.
AESID argued that its plea was predicated on Governor Umahi’s directive after last week’s security meeting that security agencies should ensure the implementation of policies on tinted glasses of their vehicles, use of siren and police escorts.
AESID listed former President of the Senate and Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Anyim Pius Anyim, former Governor Sam Ominyi Egwu, representative of Ebonyi Central and his Southern counterpart, Obinna Ogba and Ama Nnachi, among several others, as those that must be protected.
