DEFENCE CORRESPONDENTS VISIT HEADQUARTERS OPERATION HADIN KAI; Obtain First-Hand Information on Military Operations
In an effort to gain first-hand information on military operations in the North East theatre of operations, the Defence Correspondents led by Group Captain IA Bukar visited Headquarters Joint Task Force (JTF) North East (NE) Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) Maiduguri, on Tuesday 23 April 2024.
While welcoming the team, the Theatre Commander OPHK Major General Waidi Shaibu said, it was heartwarming to receive the Defence Correspondents in the theatre of operations, noting that the military recognises and appreciates the media for being vanguards in publicising military operations.
General Shaibu emphasized that apart from providing physical security and protection of territorial integrity of the nation, the military also provides an enabling environment for peace and socio-economic activities to thrive across the country. He further said that there had been tremendous transformation in military operations in the NE, right from Operation BOYONA to the current Operation HADIN KAI.
During the visit, the team was comprehensively briefed by the Theatre Intelligence Coordinator Colonel WA Adegoke on the activities of JTF NE OPHK, covering overview of OPHK, highlights of non kinetic activities of OPHK, rescue efforts of OPHK, resettlement of Internally Displaced Persons and achievements of OPHK amongst others.
The correspondents were further led to communities, where they had interviews and interactions with the locals. These engagements provided them the opportunity to gain insight into the impacts of military operations in these areas, as well as evaluate the views of the civil populace.
Highlights of the visit were; interactive session, signing of visitor’s book and group photographs.
