GBV Advocacy groups gets National Leadership, vow to adopt preventive,economic empowerment strategy for women

Women groups involved in advocacy against Gender Based Violence on Tuesday inaugurated it’s National leadership in Yenagoa,Bayelsa State with Founder of the Do Foundation, Dr. Dise Ogbise Goddy Harry emerging as the Substantive President of the Association of Women Against Gender Based Violence.
Other members of the association include First Vice President and the State Chairman of APWEN in Bayelsa, Engr. Dr. Amalate Ann Jonathan Obuebite and the 2nd Vice President and Founder of the Debora Ebisinde Filatei Women and Children Development Foundation, Dr. Joan Filatei.
Justice Omukoro, who administered the oath of office on the National and State Executives of the Association of Women Against Gender Based Violence, charged them to see their new appointment as an additional challenge to work with other women organisations, State and Federal Government in their bid to stamp out cases of violence against women.
The newly sworn-in President of Association of women against gender based violence (AWAGBV), Dr. Dise Ogbise Goddy Harry, noted that the organisation will be committed to exploring preventive measures in addressing GBV cases which shall also include women’s empowerment initiatives.
She pointed out that the aim of the organisation is to work with other Gender based organisation and the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), the Police and other stakeholders to reduce the impact of gender-based violence and empower women in the state.
In her speech, the 1st Vice President, the State Chairman of APWEN in Bayelsa, Engr. Dr. Amalate Ann Jonathan Obuebite, assured that the association will also toe the line of ensuring that women are empowered with proper education, Entrepreneurial skills and economic empowerment in order to give women in the state economic freedom to emancipate them from violence.
” We discovered that some of these women are violated due to poor economic empowerment.”She stated
Founder of the Debora Ebisinde Filatei Women and Children Development Foundation, Dr. Jonathan Filatei also agreed that the issue of educational and economic freedom for women and the girl child would be looked into by the AWAGBV.
The representative of the State Government and the Special Adviser to Governor Douye Diri on Women in Politics, Mnds. Bibian George congratulated the newly inaugurated members of AWAGBV a assured them of the State Government support towards the fight against Gender based violence.
Ms. Bibian George also urged the members of AWAGBV to ensure that the issues of mentorship of the next generation of the girl child is included in the lost of activities, urging that when the girl child is properly mentored, the awareness on contentious issues that leads to violence is reduced.
Also speaking, the Chairperson of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) in Bayelsa State,Dr. Boma Tonye Miebai also congratulated the new executive AWAGBV, urging them to brace up in the fight against gender based violence and efforts to break the chain of poverty which has been weaponized against women.
Other dignitaries present at the eves of the Ant held at the State High Court 7 include the Former Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association,Sagbama Branch, Ebinyu George Adengha, the YLF Chairman,Sagbama Branch, H.K Urom Esq, the Capoon of the National Association of Sea Dogs (Oxbow Marino Deck), Engr. Adogbeji Egbonoje and the Director, Juota Global Nigeria Limited, Rev. Eruke Taunu.
Earlier, Rev. Eruke Taunu, the Director, Juota Global Nigeria Limited, told newsmen that the Port Harcourt based company has declared readiness to fulfill it’s promise to the Association of Women Against Gender Based Violence on issues of providing economic empowerment opportunity for about 100 women in Bayelsa state.
Rev. Eruke Taunu, said the company is ready to partner with the Association of Women Against Gender Based Violence and provide funds to stimulate small business of affected women, set up career skills and give out seed funds for women affected by gender based violence.
AWAGBV, according to stakeholders that witnessed the inauguration, is out to empower women by providing them with economic opportunities, leadership roles, and access to education and resources.
“While the focus is on prevention, the leadership is also committed to providing effective responses to cases of GBV, which may include support services for survivors and accountability for perpetrators.”
“The AWAGBV will also adopt collaboration with various stakeholders, including community leaders, government agencies, and non-governmental organizations, to ensure a comprehensive and effective approach.
