Crisis Looms In Delta Oml 42 As Workforce Vows To Shutdown NNPC/Amaranta Operations

By Binebai Princewill

Massive protest tagged “the mother of all protests” is looming in Delta OML 42, Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State over failure on the part of NNPC/AMARANTA to meet varying demands of workforce in the field.

The workforce noted that they cannot continue to operate like that without the company meeting their demands.

A mail sent by the workforce to NNPC/AMARANTA, a copy of which was made available to The Liberator Newspapers Worldwide yesterday reads below:

CRISES LOOM IN OML 42 AS JOINT PROJECTS MANAGEMENT TEAM (JPMT)OF NNPC/AMARANTA FAILED TO MEET WORKFORCE DEMANDS

Sir,

It is with great displeasure we write you this mail. Just when we thought there was a light at the end of th e tunnel with this new administration (JPMT), it turned out to be same dark tunnel we have ever been in OML 42. It’s over a year since agreement was reached to resolve the 8 point agenda presented to you by the workforce and all promises from your team has definitely become a mirage.

Only the covid 19 issues have been addressed which wasn’t exactly our expectations but due to dialogue and understanding we had to let go.

Listed are the remaining 7 point agenda

that has never been resolved

  1. Prompt salary payment

  2. Salary increment

  3. Welfare issues

  4. Trainings

  5. HMO

  6. Employment letters

  7. PPE

With this current delays in salaries, it is like one step forward and two step backwards. We advice that 2 months of salaries be paid henceforth to gradually compensate for the backlogs. Mid last year 2022, you promise to review our contracts by January 2023 which should take care of the salary increment, but this is March and yet we are still wallowing in hunger due to poor salary structure.

Not a single technical personal has been sent on technical training even in the midst of turns of technical challenges across OML 42.

Welfare issues keep deteriorating day by day, to the extent food and water are a great challenge in the field. Majority of workers don’t have HMO and even those that have are on a very low and poor HMO plan. No employment letters. PPE has been poorly and scantily distributed, incomplete supply of the PPE

We hereby call for management commitment to resolve these issues without further delays to avert the looming industrial actions that will be the mother of all protest and actions

Thank you for your understanding and anticipation of your swift response

Regards,

OML 42 workforce representatives
