We are still interrogating gospel singer’s husband over culpable homicide, says FCT Command

Following death of gospel artist, Osinachi Nwachukwu, a coalition of Christian youths under the aegis of Christian Association of Nigeria (Youth Wing), yesterday, called on the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Usman Baba Alkali to commence investigation into the matter.

The organisation said the probe became expedient because information at its disposal from reliable source including friends and close family members have it that Nwachukwu died as a result of domestic violence in the hands of her husband, Peter Nwachukwu.

National chairman of YOWICAN, Belusochukwu Enwere, made the demand in a letter to the IGP obtained by journalists in Abuja yesterday.

The petition read: “We humbly write on behalf of YOWICAN, the umbrella body that coordinates and oversees the affairs of all the Christian youths in Nigeria, over the sudden death of Osinachi Nwachukwu.

“Prior to her demise, the deceased was a gospel minister, a singer and an artist. She was a devoted Christian and worshipped at Dunamis International Church, Airport Road Lugbe, Abuja and was 42 years at the time of her death.

“The deceased, Osinachi Nwachukwu was married to Peter Nwachukwu (the prime suspect) who also doubles as her manager, and with whom she had four children, all minors.

“Information reaching us from reliable source including friends and close family members has it that Osinachi Nwachukwu died as a result of injuries owing to domestic violence in the hands of her said husband, Peter Nwachukwu.

“We as well gathered that the acts of domestic violence has persisted unabated and has been largely kept away from the Christian fold and the  general public before this unfortunate episode that led to her death, owing to the severe injuries she sustained, which mostly affected her vital organs.

“ It is in the light of the foregoing , we as leaders and representatives of the Christian youths body, to which Minister Osinachi Nwachukwu is a dedicated member, hereby petitions that you use your good offices to cause an in-depth investigation into the circumstances surrounding the unfortunate death of this renowned music evangelist in order to ensure justice for late Minister Osinachi Nwachukwu.”

MEANWHILE, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of ‘B’ Department, Operations, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Ben Igweh , has said that the command was still interrogating the husband of the late gospel singer, Osinachi Nwachukwu.

According to Igweh, the suspected ‘wife batterer’ has been arrested and was still being quizzed by detectives. Spokesperson for the command, Josephine Adeh, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) confirmed his arrest to newsmen.

The police image-maker noted that Nwachukwu was arrested on Sunday after the younger brother to the deceased reported a case of ‘culpable homicide’ against one Mr. Peter Nwachukwu who is a husband to the deceased. We picked him up and he is in our custody, investigation is ongoing.”
