In an illustrious career of almost 15 years, Brent Carelse played with a number of top footballers at various clubs and was a top midfielder himself who scored a number of goals and provided assists for his teammates.

Ajax Cape Town, Mamelodi Sundowns and SuperSport United are some of Mzansi’s big clubs that Carelse played for, having started his career at Hellenic in the Mother City in 2000.

In remembering the good old days in Mzansi’s topflight, Carelse has picked the top 11 players he believes were the cream of the crop of his generation.

A number of players in Carelse’s best PSL XI are those he played alongside at Ajax Cape Town, with others coming from the Mamelodi Sundowns group of his time.

A current Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach is one of the players on the list, while an international striker who had a record-breaking goalscoring season in the title-winning campaign for Amakhosi has also made the cut.

Two former Orlando Pirates stars, who were arguably the best players to have come out of the Soweto giants in the early 2000s and have played overseas, form part of the star-studded side.
