Burna Boy talks rivalry in music industry

Damini Ogulu, the Afro-fusion singer better known as Burna Boy, says he is willing to pay blogs to stop publishing news stories about him.

In a post via X on Friday, the singer mentioned some blogs and asked them to decide how much he would pay them to “forget my name totally”.

“How far, abeg make all of una do meeting then decide how much I go give all of una make una forget my name totally,” he wrote in pidgin English.

“I know say I never pay any of una before so I say make I just run am finally. I greet you bros!!”

Reacting to the post, an X user identified as Daniel Regha, told the singer not to discredit “Nigerian blogs” because they have “contributed to your growth in life”.

“Some news might be wrong but just like fans, you owe them a lot of thanks,” the user said.

“Many people won’t hear about you, your wins, or projects if they had not promoted it. Stop acting like you are self-made, many people paved a way for you.”

Responding to the X user, Burna Boy asked Regha how much he would like to receive.

“Oga how much be your money?? Make you sef develop amnesia for my matter. You follow for people wey I dey talk about,” he said in pidgin English.

Another user said: “if they stop posting about you, you will totally be forgotten”.

In response, Burna Boy said “make I pay money first, if dem born anybody make dem remember my name after I don sort”.

Burna Boy started to gain fame after releasing ‘Like to Party’, the lead single from his debut album ‘L.I.F.E’.

In 2021, the singer set a record in Nigeria after his fifth album ‘Twice As Tall’ won the ‘Best World Music Album’ category at the Grammy Awards.

Burna Boy was also announced as the first African artiste to hit one billion Audiomack streams.

‘I Told Them’, the singer’s recently released album, scored the top spot on the UK Official Albums Chart.
