Muhammadu Buhari has blamed Nigerian elite for not contributing to the development of the country, particularly the fight against insecurity.The President spoke during the stakeholders’ meeting held at the Imo State Government House in Owerri, the state capital, after inaugurating the Owerri-Orlu Road, the phase one of the Owerri-Okigwe Road, and the State House of Assembly complex rebuilt by the administration of the state governor, Hope Uzodimma.The Senior Special Adviser to the President, African Development Bank, (AfDB), Professor Banji Oyelaran-Oyeyinka, who stated this during a webinar on “From Consumption to Production: The Role of Special Ago-Industrial Processing Zones in Nigeria”, organised by the NAE in Lagos said it high time the Federal Government renewed its commitment to industrialisation in the country.“In spite of the security challenges we have, it is good to see that other countries still believe in our potentialities,” Buhari said when he received a delegation of Governors at the State House, Abuja, on Monday.

He extolled his regime for dislodging Boko Haram terrorists in the North-East and tackling infrastructural decay which he said he inherited from the Peoples Movement Party administration in 2015. Mr Buhari said Nigeria has not recorded the expected developments because of a number of factors and inability of the elite to assist the country. The president said he would extend the same support to other state governments irrespective of political affiliations. “Our administration recognises the importance of critical infrastructure in economic development. And we are determined to drive the economic development of Nigeria through the provision of vital infrastructures across the length and the breadth of the country. “I am therefore happy that the administration of Governor Uzodinma is doing similar things in Imo State. So, I say bravo to the governor whose name I was informed means ‘Good road,’” Mr Buhari said.

He thanked residents of the state for giving him with “warm reception” like they did during his first visit, and urged them to continue to support the state governor to do more projects in the state. .
