Broos expecting more from Bafana Bafana ahead of Congo DR clash
Head coach of the South African national team, Hugo Broos says the international friendly game against DR Congo on Tuesday evening is a must win for his side and that his players need to come to the party.
Bafana Bafana played out to a goalless draw against Namibia over the weekend at the Orlando Stadium and will have a second attempt at putting a smile on their supporters’ faces at the same venue when they take on The Leopards on Tuesday.
Both Bafana Bafana and DR Congo have secured their places in the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations, Cote d’Ivoire 2023 and will be using the fixture to assess their squads ahead of their trip to Cote d’Ivoire next year.
Sharing his thoughts ahead of the fixture, the Belgium tactician who guided Cameroon to their fifth TotalEnergies AFCON title in 2017 said the game against DR Congo is a must win and was expecting nothing less.
“The result is important. So, we change our mindset a bit now. I can’t tell you that (only) the performance is important. The game against DR Congo is about getting the result. We have to see that we can win that game. I wouldn’t enter camp with a draw and defeat, not at all,” demanded Broos.
“Also, for the players, there will be another mindset. It will not be the same team and we are following the plans we had before the camp. Everyone will have their play time. I expect more of the team. I want to see a Bafana Bafana team that I saw in the past against Morocco, and we play for a victory – that is for sure” concluded Broos in reference to the 2-1 win over Morocco in June.
Broos is expected to ring some changes to his line-up with experienced players such as Al Ahly danger man, Percy Tau expected to get a run along with the in-form Zakhele Lepasa of Orlando Pirates also expected to continue in his rich vein of form for the national team.
Kick-off at the Orlando Stadium is at 15h00 GMT.
