Bayelsa to Represent South South in U:16 YSFON South South Finals.
Bayelsa State U-16 team have defeated her Rivers State counterpart 1-0 in the final of the Zonal U-16 Play-Off for the South-South.
The encounter which was decided at the Samson Siasia stadium was witnessed by stakeholders and other football enthusiast with kids displaying talents as part of the catch them young initiative to prepare the lads for future engagement.
Agie Gideon scored the only goal for the Bayelsa U:16 side from a long range effort to beat Rivers State goalkeeper just at the halftime mark having dominated play.
Despite the defeat Rivers will join Bayelsa State to represent South South in the national U:16 finals early next year in a yet to decided venue.
National Vice President Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON) South South Mr. Kali Gwegwe in a remark, commended the lads for the show of dexterity, stating that apart from keeping the lads busy and away from crime in order to attract interest from local and foreign clubs.
He noted that sports remains one of the biggest investment in the world, maintaining that there was need for corporate organizations and well meaning individual to get involved in the development of sports and that government cannot bear the burden alone.
Mr. Gwegwe equally appreciated the governor Senator Douye Diri, the Deputy Senators Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo and the commissioner for the Sports Development Dr Daniel for the endless support for the youths.
