Bayelsa Election : Sylva unveils developmental agenda to Diri’s Kinsmen
…harps on youths, women empowerment
All Progressives Congress, APC governorship candidate for the November 11 election, and former Governor of Bayelsa State, Chief Timipre Sylva said vowed to make life better for the people of Kolokuma-Opokuma LGA through his agenda of human capital development, infrastructure, agriculture, education and job creation.
Sylva who disclosed this during his campaign tour of Kaiama, Odi, Saibagreia and Opokuma communities all in Kolokuma-Opokuma, the LGA of Bayelsa State Governor Sen. Douye Diri, said he is better equiped to tackle the developmental challenges confronting the people of the LGA.
At Kaiama, the headquarters of Kolokuma-Opokuma LGA, Sylva said education, human capital development, job creation and other developmental needs will be spread evenly to all the communities across the LGA and not deny other community the dividends of democracy.
He noted that to permanently tackle the perennial flooding plaguing Kaiama town the creek will be dregded, adding that he would build the abandoned Boro town that was started by the administration of Chief Melford Okilo in the old Rivers State.
He further promised to build a befitting monument for the late Isaac Adaka Boro to serve as a tourist attractions in addition to exhuming the remains of late Boro for burial in Boro town.
His words: ” One thing we must do is to empower our youths and women in Bayelsa State. Our youths and women is what makes Bayelsa strong. If we don’t have youths and women in Bayelsa State then, we have failed. That is why we must do everything possible to develop and empower them.
” We will develop Boro town, since the time of Melford Okilo they have been talking about developing Boro town but this time we will truly develop Boro town and we are going to move the body of Boro to Boro town and build a befitting monument for Boro so that people will come here as a tourist centre to see the cradle of our icon, Isaac Adaka Boro.
” So the people of Kaiama, you know what is good for you and what is good for you is the choice of myself and my deputy MacIver. So on the 11 of November go out enmass and vote for myself and my deputy and I want to assure you that life in Kaiama will never be the same again.
“The next time I come as Governor, we want to be counting the millionaires we have made.I know how to do it. I have done it before and we are going to do even bigger things. If you know what is good for you then this is the time for Sylva and Maciver”.
Speaking to a mammoth crowd at Odi, the former Governor of Bayelsa State re-echoed his administration resolved to bring about even development to all community, adding that he would empower Bayelsans through human capital development, education and infrastructural development in addition in developing the agricultural sector and creating a gas based economy to employ virile young men and women.
” We will bring electricity and provide security. This is no time to joke, you have to go and vote us into power not this clueless PDP government without direction. So on November 11 go out without fear and vote me and my deputy governor, Maciver. And I want to assure that good things will begin to happen in Odi.
” when I come after the victory, I want to begin to identify the millionaires we have made. We are going there to joke, we want to go there and ensure that our people are empowered, we want to go there and make our people get jobs and make Bayelsa greater again.”
Also speaking, an APC chieftain, Engr. Preye Aganaba said Odi people are ready to deliver for the APC, assuring that the APC family in Odi have resolved to give six wards out of the eleven to the party.
The APC governorship campaign train berthed at Saibagreia and Opokuma where Sylva promised to complete the Polaku- Saibagreia bridge as well as commission the abandoned skill acquisition centre at Asoama turned into a sports academy by the Dickson administration with the six months of being sworn in as Governor.
In Opokuma, the former Governor highlighted the projects constructed during his tenure as Governor which include the 2000 seater pavilion, electricity, water and numerous internal roads as well as appointment of sons and daughters of the community into positions of trust and promised to do more when voted into office come February 14, 2024.
