The All Progressives Congress (APC) Communication Group National Coordinator, Chief Izzi Yakiah, has said the APC in Bayelsa State is intact and doing very well.

Yakiah told journalists in Yenagoa on Sunday that the party was more united than ever before under the leadership of the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva.

He spoke against the backdrop of the emergence of a faction of the party led by one Ebierien Itubor said to be loyal to the former Minister of State for Agriculture, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri.

He described the new faction as inconsequential, adding that they did not have the fiber to pull any political strings in the state as it lacked following.

The APC chieftain said it was unfortunate that people who had benefited from the party had chosen to deceive themselves under the guise of creating unnecessary problems.

He, however, added that he was delighted that the national leadership of the APC did not recognise the factional group in the state, stressing that Sylva remained the leader of the party.

Yakiah said, “There is really no crisis rocking the party. Issues were resolved prior to the Bayelsa governorship election. The party fought in one accord and it was able to win that election, if not for the Supreme Court judgment that brought the present governor in board.

“The party has one leader and he is Chief Timipre Sylva, the former governor of Bayelsa and the current Minister of State for Petroleum Resources.

“It is unfortunate that those instigating the supposed crisis are people who have benefited so much from the magnanimity of the leader of the party.

”They wake up one day and begin to foment crisis and embark on a fruitless exercise that will end in futility but thank God that the national secretariat of the APC only recognizes one party executives and Chief Sylva as the leader of the party in Bayelsa State.”
