Aston Villa ‘desperately trying to sign player Steven Gerrard adores’ amid Spurs interest

ASTON VILLA have had a superb transfer window with multiple high-profile arrivals.

Aston Villa have been one of the biggest winners of the January transfer window, with the signings of Philippe Coutinho, Lucas Digne and Calum Chambers having improved their squad immensely in the past four weeks. And they could improve their ranks even more in the summer with manager Steven Gerrard ‘desperately’ trying to sign Brighton’s Yves Bissouma per reports.

Villa spent their money wisely over the summer with the signings of Danny Ings, Leon Bailey, Emiliano Buendía and Ashley Young – although all these signings were offset by the £100million sale of Jack Grealish.

The club just about broke even with the signings made after their captain left, which meant any funds they originally had for the summer window were still in the coffers.

This was spent on Digne and Coutinho who came in as their two marquee signings, alongside the captures of Robin Olsen and Chambers.

However, having only racked up a net spend of £25m, there may be more money to spend in the upcoming summer.

And that may mean good news for Villa fans after Gerrard made his intentions to sign Bissouma clear, according to Nabil Djellit.

The French journalist states that Gerrard is ‘desperately’ pushing for the Malian international.

With just a year-and-a-half left on his contract, an exit seems likely for Bissouma, who would likely push for a move to Villa to work under Gerrard. It may be one that has to wait until summer though at this stage.

Bissouma has become a key component of Graham Potter’s midfield, providing an energetic flair to one of the league’s most exciting sides.
