AS Far – Ampem Darkoa: Bronze medal at stake in third place play off

Published Friday, 17 November 2023

For the first time in the history of the CAF Women’s Champions League, two teams who faced each other in the group stages find themselves in the third and fourth place play off.

AS Far and Ampem Darkoa, the two losers in the semi-finals will have an opportunity consolidate their semi-final losses when they meet in the third and fourth place play off of the CAF Women’s Champions League, Cote d’Ivoire 2023 on Saturday evening.

A double challenge presents itself for the reigning champions, AS Far.

The first will be to overcome Ampem Darkoa, who just like Mamelodi Sundowns are a team that has given them a loss at the competition. And the second is not to leave empty-handed, which would constitute the biggest failure in the history of their participation in the competition.

The Ghanaians on the other hand will be cautious of not letting a lead slip after doing so on two occasions in the competition already.

The two sides will meet for the last time in this season’s edition of the competition for an opportunity to walk away with a bronze medal on Saturday evening at the Amadou Gon Coulibaly Stadium.

This is what the players had to say:

Blessing Shine Agbomadji, AS Far defender

“We have digested our defeat against Mamelodi Sundowns. From now on, our goal is clear, we want to win this match and come away with the bronze medal. It’s always good for morale to finish a tournament on a good note.”

Nancy Amoh, Ampem Darkoa midfielder

“We have regained momentum. Losing the semi-final was indeed sad but we will not have this failure in mind when we show up to play this match.
