ARISE News Journalist Somtochukwu Maduagwu Shot Dead in Abuja Home During Armed Robbery

A prominent Nigerian television journalist, Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, has been shot dead by gunmen during a suspected armed robbery at her residence in Katampe, Abuja.

The 29-year-old, known for her work as a news anchor and reporter at ARISE News, was killed in the early hours of Monday, 29 September 2025. The Nigeria Police Force has launched an investigation into the incident.

Maduagwu, widely known as “Sommie”, was regarded as one of ARISE News’ most promising journalists. A trained lawyer, she combined legal expertise with sharp storytelling, earning her a reputation as a bold and articulate voice in Nigeria’s media landscape.
