If you’re one of the approximately one BILLION people who use iPhones across the world, chances are you’re also struggling with battery issues. One of the most common complaints from iPhone users is about drained batteries, but this is largely attributed to several built-in apps which use-up the battery much faster. While there are all kinds of tips on how to better maintain your iPhone’s battery life, Apple has all kinds of hacks to help maximise the lifespan of your device.

TIPS: HOW TO IMPROVE YOUR IPHONE’S BATTERY LIFESPAN

  • One of the standout tips is that you may have been charging your iPhone completely wrong – that’s if you charge your device with its case on. According to the company, certain styles of cases may generate excess heat, which can affect battery capacity.

“If you notice that your device gets hot when you charge it, take it out of its case first. For Apple Watch Edition models, make sure the cover of the magnetic charging case is off,” it says on its website.

  • Avoid extreme temperatures: The tech giant says low or high-temperature conditions might cause your iPhone to change its behaviour for the worst. It advises that the most ideal temperatures to keep your phone at, is between 16 to 22C (62 to 72F).
  • No 100% charging for long-term storage: If you plan on storing your phone long term, it is recommended that you charge it to around 50%. Apple says, “If you store a device when its battery is fully discharged, the battery could fall into a deep discharge state, which renders it incapable of holding a charge.” If you plan to store your device for longer than six months, charge it to 50% every six months
  • Enable low power mode: This is probably the easiest way to extend your device’s power life. This function informs you when your battery level goes down to 20%, and again at 10%, and lets you turn on Low Power Mode with one tap. It temporarily halts some apps, tools and features on your phone from working. “You can still use key functions like making and receiving phone calls, email and messages, accessing the Internet and more. And when your phone charges up again, Low Power Mode automatically switches off,” says Apple.
