Alexander Zverev shares his thoughts on the vaccines

Alexander Zverev won only one match in the Masters 1000 tournaments this year: the one he won in Monaco against Lorenzo Sonego, before losing in two sets to the Belgian David Goffin. In Miami, however, Alexander had lost immediately against the young Finnish Emil Ruusuvuori, who won 6-1 in the third set.

Today at number 6 on the world rankings, the Hamburg player was also 3rd in November three years ago. As reported by a German publication and then also reported by the EssentiallySports website, Alexander’s idea about vaccines does not seem so far from that of ATP number one Novak Djokovic, who has always shown a minimum of skepticism.

We have to recall that some tennis players have already been vaccinated and are in favor of the vaccine, others, a minority, are more skeptical about it. There are exponents from both sides, but here’s what Alexander Zverev thinks on the matter.

Zvever’s about the vaccines

“I don’t want to say much,” confessed the finalist at the last edition of the US Open 2020. “Nowadays it’s easy to be misunderstood, whatever you say. This is too political for my taste.

I have not yet been vaccinated and I believe that everyone should act as they see fit.” Among the tennis players who have already received the first or both doses of the vaccine, Filip Krajinovic, Dusan Lajovic, Simona Halep, Eugenie Bouchard and Victoria Azarenka stand out.

The ATP calendar, put to the test last year due to the COVID-19 emergency, already faces the problem of Roland Garros this season, whose management has decided to move the tournament by a week due to the growing number of cases recorded in recent weeks in France.

As for Wimbledon, the Church Road event should be staged with a reduced capacity of spectators and without its historic queue, to avoid crowds inside and outside the stadium. Spaniard Rafael Nadal had preferred to give up the last edition of the US Open precisely because of the restrictions imposed by the virus and the Stars and Stripes Grand Slam was then won by the Austrian Dominic Thiem in the fifth set over Alexander Zverev in the final.
