Alan Shearer stated on Twitter that Luis Diaz was ‘very good’ during Liverpool’s Carabao Cup final penalty shootout win against Chelsea at Wembley on Sunday.

The Wembley final may have finished goalless after extra-time, but it was an action-packed game throughout with offside goal after offside goal being ruled out.

In the end, the game went to penalties, with every single outfield player scoring and the game remarkably going down to the goalkeepers – Caoimhin Kelleher well and truly dispatched his spot-kick, but Kepa Arrizabalaga blazed his over the bar to hand Liverpool a record-breaking ninth League Cup truimph.

Nonetheless, when the Premier League’s all-time goalscorer was asked about his thoughts on Diaz during the Carabao Cup final, he issued this two-word description.

Regarding Diaz, he should look at somebody like Jota because, when he first arrived on the Merseyside scene, he couldn’t stop scoring goal after goal from the bench.

That eventually resulted in him swatting Roberto Firmino out of the starting XI, despite the quick-footed Brazilian being such a key player for Klopp.

Given the start Diaz has had since his January move, it could be argued that he is going down the same road as Jota.

If that’s the case, then it’s more the merrier for Klopp and the depth for this Liverpool side.

One thing the Reds have lacked, compared to someone like Manchester City, is that squad depth, well, they might just have that now and a first trophy of the season.
