Agbere FC, Peremo Soccer Academy Triumphs in Bayelsa Governor’s Cup Third Place.

Bayelsa State Governor’s Football Tournament christened the Prosperity Cup losers final on Saturday produced dramatic a penalty shootout as Agbere FC of Sagbama beat Dream Boys FC of Odi 14-13 on penalties after 1-1 in regulation time.
Goru Jason put the academy side ahead on 24 minute from a well connected pass to beat the Agbere FC defence line having controlled the game.
The coach Ebi Amula’s tutored side sat back to defend relying on counter attack but the Odi based academy starved Agbere FC of the ball as they continued to be in search of the ball.
Dream Boys FC searched for what could be the security goal in the second half with the introduction of few players but the Sagbama side kept them away from their danger zone with the hope of getting the leveler.
When it seemed like Dream Boys FC of Odi were going to clinch the third place trophy Gibere Akpico restored Agbere FC hopes on 89 minutes to take the game into penalties.
Agbere FC will be smiling home with the one million naira prize money for the winner of the third place encounter having finished third last year in Nigeria’s biggest grassroots football tournament.
Earlier in the women’s third place encounter Peremor Soccer Academy thrashed Niger Delta University NDU Queens FC 5-1 at the Samson Siasia Stadium to win the losers final.
In a related development, all now is set for the final of Nigeria’s biggest grassroots football after months of football activities across 24 centers in the eight local government areas of the State.
Crusaders Feeders FC of Peretorugbene from Ekeremor Local Government Area will engage De Grace FC of Yenagoa on Sunday 30th, July, 2023 at 3pm while Crystal Stars FC will tackle Golden Sun Sports Club in the women’s final at 1pm.
Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri would perform the ceremonial kick-off supported by the Deputy Governor Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, Speaker of the the State House of Assembly Rt Hon. Abraham Ingobere, the Commissioner of Sports, Hon Daniel Igali amongst other dignitaries.
Also expected to grace the occasion are members of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly and State executive council, party leaders, political appointees, newly appointed LGA’s caretaker chairmen,football legends in the country and other dignitaries who would be part of the closing ceremony of the historic tournament that featured 214 teams.
Other invited guests to witness the epic final are the President Nigeria Football Federation, Mr Ibrahim Gusau, NFF Technical Director Augustine Eguavoen, while Nigeria National League NNL chairman George Aluo, NNL Chief Executive Officer Emmanuel Attah and Chief Operating Officer Emmanuel Adesanya who are already in Yenagoa.
