‎Director of Sports, Lambert Applauds Team’s Zonal Elimination Performance

‎Director of Sports, Bayelsa State Sports Council, Mr Bibowei Lambert has praised Team Bayelsa for its performances in the just-concluded zonal elimination ahead of the maiden edition of the Intermediate Games and the National Sports Festival in Lagos and Enugu states respectively.

‎Team Bayelsa produced outstanding performances in the intermediate games and the National Sports Festival zonal elimination held in Calabar, the Cross River State capital, in the process qualifying for different team sports ahead of the fiesta.

‎Mr. Lambert in an interview with journalists, hailed the team’s show of dexterity and determination throughout the elimination, adding that the athletes’ resilience and doggedness was crucial to their qualification.

‎While praising the athletes for their dedication and discipline, he said the results of their performances have continued to show that Bayelsa has gone beyond the level of mere participation but winning, pointing out that he is confident that the athletes would give Bayelsa a good representation in both competitions.

‎According to him, the state’s performance at the zonal elimination was a testament to its sustained investment in sports and youth development, maintaining that the outing has further upheld the Bayelsa trajectory as one of Nigeria’s leading sporting states.

‎Mr. Lambert commended the state’s helmsman, Senator Douye Diri and his Deputy, Dr. Peter Akpe for ensuring that funds are were made available for Team Bayelsa to travel for the zonal elimination, stressing that Bayelsa’s success story is incomplete without the government’s continuous support.

‎”I want to appreciate the governor, His Excellency, Senator Douye Diri and his Deputy, Dr. Peter Akpe for the funds made available for the team to participate in the zonal elimination in Calabar. This has continued to show that the government accords priority to sports development”, Mr Bibowei Lambert stated.

‎He equally lauded the Commissioner for Sports Development, Dr Daniel Igali, for ‎consistently checking on the team’s wellbeing, making enquiry about the athletes, coaches, and officials and ensuring that emerging concerns were promptly communicated and addressed.

‎The Director noted that Igali’s regular contact with the contingent a sense of belonging and made the team feel valued, adding that such gestures go beyond administrative responsibility and demonstrate genuine commitment to the development of sports in the state.

‎”I want to equally appreciate the Commissioner for Sports Development, Dr Daniel Igali, for the consistent attention he has given to Team Bayelsa. The Commissioner was always in touch with the team to see the progress of the team, checking on the welfare of our athletes, coaches, and officials. This shows commitment”, he added.

‎He also commended his management, ‎coaches and secretaries of the various associations for their invaluable contributions, ensuring that the outing was successful, adding that the attention is now focused on the National Sports Festival in Enugu.
