Rt. Hon. Fred Agbedi Exemplifies Compassionate Leadership, Pays Last Respects to Deputy Speaker’s Mother

The Minority Leader of the House of Representatives and member representing Sagbama/Ekeremor Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. (Chief) Fred Agbedi, Ph.D., has once again demonstrated his compassion, humility and people-centred leadership for which he is widely admired, as he flew in from Abuja despite his demanding national responsibilities to pay his last respects to Late Mama Nanakumo Korobou Wanzor.
Late Mama Wanzor, who hailed from Egbemo-angalabiri Town in Ekeremor Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, passed away at the age of 88.
Rt. Hon. Agbedi’s presence at the funeral was a profound demonstration of his love, care and enduring bond with his people. Beyond the enormous responsibilities of his office as Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, he has continued to distinguish himself as a leader who remains deeply connected to his constituents, sharing with them not only in moments of joy and celebration but also in moments of grief and sorrow.
The federal lawmaker was accompanied by Hon. Tare Porri, member representing Ekeremor Constituency One in the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, and Hon. Barr. Dein Benadoumene, Chairman of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly Service Commission, and Chief Austin Lugbenwei, Member of the Bayelsa Elders Forum. Together, they joined family members, friends and sympathisers to console the Deputy Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Michael Ogbere, over the passing of his beloved mother at Egbema-angalbiri Community in Ekeremor Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
The funeral rites, which commenced on Monday, featured a series of activities celebrating the life and legacy of the departed matriarch. These included traditional wrestling contests, football matches, cultural displays and a wake-keeping ceremony filled with songs and dances in honour of the late Mama Nanakumo Korobou Wanzor.
Agbedi’s thoughtful gesture once again underscores the exceptional qualities that have endeared him to his people, a compassionate leader, dependable representative, and true servant whose commitment goes beyond politics and public office. His presence at such a moment of grief reflects genuine humanity, solidarity and an unwavering commitment to standing with the people he serves, regardless of the circumstances.
