Bukola Olopade Has Transformed Nigerian Sports Through Visionary Leadership – Chief Chris Onwuzurike

Chairman of the Imo State Athletics Association, Founder and Funder of the Akanchawa Educational Foundation, and President/CEO of The KEO Group, Chief Chris Onwuzurike, has described the appointment of the Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Hon. Bukola Olopade, as one of the greatest developments in the history of Nigerian sports.

Speaking exclusively to osprimetv from his base in the United States of America, Chief Onwuzurike commended the leadership style of the NSC Director General, saying his administration has restored confidence, unity and professionalism across the nation’s sporting sector.

According to him, Hon. Olopade has demonstrated an exceptional understanding of sports governance, drawing from his wealth of experience as a former Commissioner for Sports.

“The best thing that has happened to Nigerian sports in recent years is the emergence of Hon. Bukola Olopade as Director General of the National Sports Commission. His style of leadership has brought something special to Nigerian sports. He understands governance, he understands administration, and most importantly, he understands the needs of athletes,” Onwuzurike said.

He noted that the atmosphere of peace currently being enjoyed by several sports federations did not happen by chance but is the result of purposeful and inclusive leadership.

“Where do I start from? Look at the level of peace among the federations, the improved welfare of athletes and coaches, and the renewed confidence stakeholders now have in the system. These achievements are products of deliberate leadership.”

Chief Onwuzurike further explained that because Olopade had previously served as a Commissioner for Sports, he was already familiar with the everyday challenges faced by athletes, coaches and sports administrators.

“As a former Commissioner for Sports, Bukola Olopade has always understood the plight of our athletes. Therefore, what he is doing today as Director General is not surprising. He came into office with experience, compassion and a clear vision of what Nigerian sports should become.”

The Imo State Athletics Association Chairman also applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as a bold and well-informed decision in appointing Olopade as the Director General of the National Sports Commission.

“I must commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for putting a round peg in a round hole. The appointment of Bukola Olopade has yielded tremendous results. In less than four years, Nigerian sports has witnessed remarkable progress in administration, athlete welfare, grassroots development and international competitiveness.”

Onwuzurike expressed optimism that with sustained support from the Federal Government and continued collaboration among stakeholders, Nigerian sports would achieve even greater success on the continental and global stage.

He urged administrators, athletes, coaches and sports enthusiasts to continue supporting the reforms being introduced by the National Sports Commission, stressing that unity and continuity would be key to sustaining the momentum already achieved.

Chief Onwuzurike concluded by reaffirming his commitment to athletics development in Imo State and Nigeria, pledging to continue supporting initiatives that will help discover and nurture young talents capable of winning laurels for the country.
