Queen ‘worried Meghan Markle’s racism claims will damage Commonwealth’
Publicly, the Queen has only issued a brief statement in response to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s recent bombshell interview. Privately, she is said to be concerned about the consequences it might have
The Queen is reportedly “worried” about the impact Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s interview could have on the Commonwealth – as the Royal Family battles allegations of racism.
During their chat with the US TV host, the Duchess of Sussex said that one royal had expressed concerns about how dark Archie’s skin might be.
Oprah later clarified that the comments were not made by the Queen, nor Prince Philip.
Prince William became the first royal comment to openly comment on the claims, insisting during a visit to a school in east London that they are “very much not a racist family”.
A royal insider told US magazine PEOPLE that the monarch is worried about how the story may affect the Commonwealth and her image across 54 countries.
They said: “She will be very worried about how [the racism claims] have gone down in countries she has supported and loved and given her life to throughout her reign.”
A Buckingham Palace spokesman declined to comment.
Another source claimed that Prince Charles felt “enormously let down” by the interview.
They said: “The prince believes in diversity and his actions show that.
“He was the first person to highlight the Windrush generation [the first mass immigration from the Caribbean to the U.K. in the 1950s] and the contributions they made to British society.
“He has worked hard for the Muslim community. Of all the members of the Royal Family, he has taken this issue the most seriously.”
The Prince of Wales has not yet publicly commented on the interview.
During a visit to a pop-up NHS clinic in north London, he laughed when a journalist asked him for his thoughts.
After days of silence, the Queen released a short statement in response.
It read: “The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan.
“The issues, particularly that of race, are concerning. While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately.
“Harry, Meghan, and Archie will always be much-loved family members.”
Her Majesty is said to have privately vowed to stand by Harry despite all the drama
“She is not angry, she is just sad,” an insider told The Sun.
“They have always worried about him and the Queen feels very protective about him. They always tried to support him when Meghan came along.
“They all worried less about him when Meghan was on the scene as he seemed so happy.”
