Former Bayelsa State governor, Senator Seriake Dickson, has clarified that while he is qualified to contest for Nigeria’s presidency, it is not his immediate priority, stating that his current focus is on building a viable political platform through the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

Speaking on Channels TV’s Politics Today, the former Bayelsa State governor said the NDC is not being positioned as a vehicle for personal ambition but as an inclusive platform for Nigerians.

“What we are focusing on now is how to bring Nigerians to this party and make them see it as a platform for all. We are not doing NDC for presidential ambition,” Dickson said.

Dickson acknowledged his eligibility to run for the presidency but maintained that leadership aspirations are not driving his current political engagement.

“I am qualified to run for the presidency, but that is not my priority for now,” he stated.

“Don’t declare a political ambition for me. I am a politician of conviction,” he added.

Dickson also weighed in on the deepening crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), expressing concern over its current state and the emotional toll on long-standing members.

Referencing former President Goodluck Jonathan, Dickson said the situation within the PDP would be particularly distressing for those who had deep ties to the party.

“Ex-President Jonathan must be very sad; I know that. If I am sad having been this attached to the PDP, you can imagine how sad he will be,” he said.
