FRED AGBEDI HAILS WILLS’ MASTERPIECE AS BAYELSA’S HISTORY COMES ALIVE AT GRAND BOOK LAUNCH

Prominent stakeholders, political leaders, and scholars converged at the DSP Alamieyeseigha Banquet Hall, Government House, Yenagoa, on Saturday for the launch of “When the Tide Turns: Reflections on Bayelsa’s Historic Odyssey,” a book authored by Engr. Numoipre E. F. Wills.

The event, chaired by former President, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, attracted high-profile dignitaries including Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, who was represented by his deputy,Pastor Peter Pereotubo Akpe, Ph.D.

Serving as Chief Launcher was Chief Kesiye Asamaiowei, Managing Director of Pelfaco Nigeria Limited and Global Marine, represented at the occasion by Rt. Hon. (Chief) Fred Agbedi, Ph.D, member representing Sagbama/Ekeremor Federal Constituency. The book was reviewed by High Chief (Barr.) Fidelis Agbiki.

In his remarks, Governor Diri, through his deputy, underscored the significance of the publication as a vital resource for scholars, policymakers, and the general public. He noted that the book captures the historical evolution of Bayelsa State while aligning with the achievements of his administration’s Prosperity Agenda. According to him, ongoing infrastructural development, particularly in road connectivity, is opening up communities and unlocking the state’s economic potential, demonstrating that “the tide is indeed turning.”

Speaking on behalf of the Chief Launcher, Rt. Hon. Fred Agbedi lauded the author for producing a work that meticulously documents the historical journey leading to the creation of Bayelsa State. He described the book as a valuable intellectual contribution that preserves the collective memory of the people and serves as a reference point for future generations.

Agbedi, who acknowledged his personal involvement in the state’s creation process, expressed satisfaction that such a comprehensive account is now available to the public. He further described the book as a significant addition to knowledge and historical scholarship.

He also paid glowing tribute to Engr. Wills, noting his past leadership as Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and commended his enduring commitment to documenting the state’s legacy.

Addressing young people, the federal lawmaker urged them to remain steadfast, dedicated, and committed to service. He emphasized that true service is people-centered, noting that leadership should be defined not by personal ambition but by the collective good of the people.
