Makinde Lacks Courage – Fayose Reveals Why Oyo Gov Went To See Tinubu

Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has alleged details of what transpired during Governor Seyi Makinde’s visit to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa on Wednesday.
In a statement on Thursday evening, Fayose claimed that the Oyo State governor was bluntly told to take his political grievances to the public space.
According to Fayose, Makinde arrived at the Villa accompanied by the Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, whom he said was enlisted for support.
Fayose claimed the President made it clear that he was willing to engage Makinde strictly on official matters concerning Oyo State.
“The President told him clearly that if it was about official matters regarding Oyo State, he would listen,” Fayose stated.
However, Fayose alleged that Tinubu drew a firm line when it came to political discussions, especially Makinde’s public claims that the President was plotting to turn Nigeria into a one-party state.
According to him, the President advised Makinde to return to the media if he wished to air political grievances.
“He was told pointedly that he could not come to the closet on political matters to eat his words, while saying something else to the public,” Fayose said.
Fayose further alleged that President Tinubu told Makinde he was not expecting any political support from him ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He claimed the President equally made it clear that he would continue to support his own party and political allies.
“The President told him he was not expecting any support from him regarding 2027,” Fayose alleged.
The former Ekiti governor also claimed that Tinubu reaffirmed his relationship with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, stressing that the President would not distance himself from Wike.
According to Fayose, Tinubu told Makinde that any disagreement between him and Wike was a personal matter that should not be brought before the President.
“Wike is someone whose support and consistency the President cannot deny or wish away,” Fayose said.
Fayose claimed that the outcome of the meeting explained why Makinde later told journalists that he was comfortable remaining in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“It’s because of the reality that there is nothing for him in the APC,” Fayose stated.
In a further allegation, Fayose questioned whether Makinde had returned the 30 billion naira intervention fund allegedly received from the Federal Government following the 2023 Ibadan explosion.
“Shouldn’t Makinde tell the people of Oyo State if he has returned the N30bn he admitted to have received from the Federal Government?” Fayose asked.
