Ex- DPR comptroller, Duncan Eradiri, debunk reports on ill health, says he is mentally sound, not bed ridden

Pioneer Operations Controller of ithe Yenagoa field office of the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), Duncan Eradiri, has debunked as “untrue” , “mischievous” and ” sponsored” the claims made on his state of health and alleged manipulations by his wife, Mrs. Grace Izonebi Eradiri.

A local tabloid, the Light Newspaper on the 16th to 22nd December, 2025 edition on page 29 of December 20-26, 2025 had published an alleged case of ill health and claiming that the retired DPR Operation Comptroller is bedridden, incapacitated and incapable of making rational personal, financial, or legal decisions.

Mr. Duncan Eradiri, in a statement made available to newsmen, described the claims made in the publication as incorrect, inaccurate and unfounded, declaring that he is alive, mentally sound and in control of his faculties.

In the statement, personally signed by Duncan Eradiri, he stated that aside from normal conditions associated with advancing age, “I remain in good health and continue to attend to my affairs independently.On my welfare and personal care:I take care of myself and my personal hygiene.”

“I am not neglected, abandoned, unkempt, or dependent on anyone for my daily welfare in the manner portrayed in the publication.On the conduct of my wife, Mrs. Grace Izonebi Eradiri:My wife has not subjected me to abuse, neglect, inhuman treatment, or deprivation of care.”

“She has treated me with respect and dignity and has maintained cordial relations with my relatives to the best of her ability. At no time has she isolated me from family members or prevented lawful access to me.”

” I am in constant touch with my family members and my younger sister, the last child of my mother, lives with me for some years now while my other siblings regularly visit me as I also visit them.On the sale of my properties: Every property sold by me was sold voluntarily, based on my personal assessment of my needs at the relevant time. ”

“No one, including my wife, compelled, pressured, or manipulated me into selling any property. The decisions were mine alone.On my finances and bank accounts:My wife is not a signatory to my bank accounts and does not control my finances.”

” I determine how my money is spent, except for routine family expenses which are discussed in the normal course of marriage.On my will:I made my will freely and voluntarily, without pressure, suggestion, or influence from any person.”

He also denied abandonong his last child from his first marriage abroad rather he sponsored his education in Canada for four years.

On the allegations that the Wife is influencing the compilations of his last Will, Duncan Eradiri dismissed such claim, insisting that “My wife neither initiated the making of the will nor participated in its preparation, contents, or execution.”

” The will reflects my personal wishes and convictions at the time it was made.On medical records and decision-making:My medical decisions and records remain personal to me and are handled in accordance with the law and medical ethics. Any request for such records requires my consent.”

He however cautioned the Editorial board of the Light newspapers and Managers of Radio Stations involved in broadcasting the false narrative of ill health to exercise caution and verify facts, “The publication and radio discussion contained several factual inaccuracies concerning my health, welfare, and personal affairs is untrue.”

” Neither the publisher nor the broadcasters contacted me or my wife to verify these facts or obtain clarification before dissemination Purpose of this clarification:I issue this statement solely to correct the public record and to prevent misunderstanding. ”

“It is not intended to malign or accuse any individual, but to state the true position of my health, welfare, and personal decisions.I respectfully urge the public to treat the publication with caution and to rely on this clarification as an accurate statement of my position.I make this statement voluntarily and in full possession of my mental capacity.”
