‎TUC Bayelsa Council Elects New Executive

‎The newly-elected chairman of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Bayelsa State Council, Comrade Fefegha Muneneyi-Edwin says he will confront the persistent challenges of inadequate wages and poor working conditions of workers in the State.

‎Comrade Muneneyi-Edwin gave the assurance at the Quadrennial Delegates Conference held at the NLC/TUC Secretariat in Yenagoa, which drew delegates from various affiliate unions across the state.



‎He noted that the theme “Building a Stronger Labour Movement for a Better Nigeria” resonates deeply with the aspirations of members of TUC, stating that the gathering reaffirms the commitment to the principles of solidarity, justice, and fairness amongst members.

‎According to him, he is aware of the challenges facing the sector, including inadequate wages, poor working conditions, and limited job security, pointing out that he would continue to advocate for policies that promote the welfare of workers and strengthen the labour movement.



‎He expressed gratitude to the delegates for what he described as a mandate built on confidence and trust, assuring that the new leadership will operate with integrity, placing workers’ welfare at the centre of every decision, and maintaining that he would strengthen institutional engagement with government agencies, defend workers’ rights with renewed vigour, and push for policies that will significantly improve the labour environment in Bayelsa.

‎In separate remarks, the Commissioner for Labour, Employment and Productivity, Hon. Odoko Saturday Omiloli and the Commissioner for Information, Mrs. Ebiuwou Koku-Obiyai, both of whom were represented at the occasion by Alamene Jacob-Apoikore and Dr. Sophia Obi respectively, commended the peaceful conduct of the exercise, and urged the incoming leadership to work as a united team in sustaining the relationship it has
‎enjoyed in the state.



‎Earlier, the outgoing chairman, Dr. Julius Laye, highlighted the milestones achieved during his tenure, as he advised the new elected body to maintain teamwork, carry members of his executive along, and consolidate on the gains made by the previous administration.

‎Enemotimi Allen will serve as Secretary, Atonye Jonah was elected as Vice Chairman, Kuro Peri-Ockiya, Public Relations Officer, Treasurer – Tupere Diekedie, Financial Secretary – Barr. Gita Matthew Peremobowei, Sikpi Ebipaepere elected as Assistant Secretary.

‎Other members of the executive council are, Okunobo Patrick Elliot Auditor 1, Auditor II – Celestine Ondyima, Women Wing Chairperson – Mabel Tabowei, Women Wing Secretary – Com. Matina Sokebolou, Ex-Officio and Dr. Julius Laye immediate past chairman.
