Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has called her suspension an invalidation of natural justice, fairness and equity.
Akpoti-Uduaghan was given a six-month suspension on Thursday after filing a petition against Senate President Godswill Akpabio over allegations of sexual harassment.
Reacting in a Facebook post, she expressed displeasure over the decision, saying it does not take away her legitimacy.
Akpoti-Uduaghan stated her intention to continue using her position to serve her constituents.
“Against the culture of silence, intimidation and victim-shaming; my unjust suspension from the Nigerian senate invalidates the principles of natural justice, fairness and equity.
“The illegal suspension does not withdraw my legitimacy as a senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and I will continue to use my duly elected position to serve my constituents and country to the best of my ability till 2027… and beyond,” she penned.
The suspension comes despite a court order restraining the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions from proceeding with the seating arrangement disciplinary hearing.
While dismissing Akpoti-Uduaghan’s petition, the committee chairman, Neda Imaseun, called it “dead on arrival” as it was signed by the petitioner, which violates senate rules.
