Bayelsa Women groups hold capacity training, declare readiness against cases of sexual and gender based violence
Scores of Women-Led Organizations in Bayelsa have organised an in-house leadership and capacity-building training to empower them in readiness to counter cases of sexual and gender based violence.
The capacity training, according to the organisers, is aimed at strengthening leadership skills and enhancing organizational effectiveness, response and prompt intervention to cases of sexual and gender based violence.
Members of the Coalition of Women Organisations include FOMWAN, BAYELSA STATE CHAPTER, WOMEN WING OF CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA ( SOUTH SOUTH), ASSOCIATION OF TRADITIONAL COMMUNITY BIRTH Attendants BAYElSA STATE CHAPTER, END VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND CHILDREN , APWEN BAYELSA, DISE OGBISE FOUNDATION and OKPOITARI DIONGOLI FOUNDATION.
Also included are the KIOSATE BOY CHILD FOUNDATION, St Yves Children’s Foundation, Karinate Education and empowerment foundation, EXTREMEWITHPSK, GIRL CHILD & LESS Privilege DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVE BAYELSA STATE CHAPTER ,THRIVING FUTURES INITIATIVE , FRIDAY KONYEFA FOUNDATION , Deborah Ebisinde Filatei women and children Developmental foundation and EXCELLENT PEOPLES OGBO.
In her opening remarks, the leader of the Do Foundation Team. Barr. Dise Goddy Harry, emphasized the importance of equipping members with a deeper understanding of leadership principles, coalition structures, and the roles and responsibilities essential for sustainable collaboration.
She also emphasized on the need for understanding response mechanism on Sexual and gender based violence cases and calls which is a crucial part of the training.
The training featured an esteemed lineup of facilitators, including Chief Dr. Antonia Garner, a UK-based Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Specialist, who delivered the welcome address.
The General manager of Niger Delta Television Comrade Frederick Fabor also graced the occasion with an opening remark, underscoring the significance of collective leadership in advancing women’s initiatives but highlighted the fact that the coalition should not forget to protect the boy child and men too.

Key topics covered during the training include the understanding the Gains and Benefits of a Coalition, Secrets of High Performance, Methodology and Workability of a Coalition (Roles & Responsibilities), Media Strategies for Effective Leadership in Achieving Organizational Goals and Step by step strategies /Responding to cases of. Sexual and gender based violence.
Among Expert facilitators who led the discussions during the training include Engr. Philip Slabor, Executive Director, SPID,Pastor Tony Banks (USA), Miss Abigail Bokoyibo, Executive Director, Dr. Inebaraton Preye, Vice Chairman, NUJ Bayelsa and Victor Oroyi, CEO, Reflector Communications.
The event served as a platform for knowledge-sharing, strategic networking, and reinforcing the Coalition’s commitment to empowering women-led organizations for greater impact.
